About This Place

Located at 2145 Market St in Wheeling, WV, Later Alligator offers a vibrant and inviting experience that seamlessly blends classic American flavors with European-inspired bistro charm. This delightful restaurant, wine bar, cocktail lounge, and pub truly stands out as a culinary gem for locals and travelers alike.

Later Alligator's menu is a celebration of savory and sweet creativity, with a particular emphasis on expertly crafted crepes that capture both nostalgic warmth and inventive flair. From the blooming burst of the Blueberry Hill crepe, praised as “phenomenal” by delighted diners, to the sophisticated Lox crepe that artfully balances fresh, smoky notes, each bite offers an irresistible combination of textures and flavors. Their savory selections don’t disappoint either, showcasing dishes like the hearty Steak Salad with roasted tomatoes and marinated portabella mushrooms, and the indulgent Bluesfest BBQ Pork Kettle Chips—a crunch of kettle chips topped with succulent pulled pork, BBQ sauce, sour cream, and green onions, a perfect harmony of smoky, tangy, and creamy sensations.

The charm extends beyond taste to ambiance. Guests frequently comment on the unique, adorable interior and the welcoming atmosphere, which complements the rich menu. Whether you're grabbing a quick, flavorful bite between activities—like hockey games as one visitor did—or settling in for their acclaimed Sunday brunch, the vibe is consistently lively yet comfortable, enhanced by engaging decor and thoughtfully curated lighting. Outdoor seating is also available, inviting patrons to savor their meals in the fresh Wheeling air.

For those seeking refreshing sips, the cocktail bar's offerings are impressive and inventive. The Earl Grey Martini and the zesty Lemon Drop add a refined touch to your dining experience, while the robust Espresso Martini is a perfect pick-me-up. Wine lovers will also appreciate the well-chosen selection that complements the diverse menu.

The thoughtfully crafted salads—such as the Sweet Potato Salad with roasted sweet potatoes, dried cranberries, avocado, shaved red onions, and feta on a bed of spinach dressed in a honey lemon vinaigrette—offer refreshing options that balance hearty entrées. Appetizers like the chilled Artichoke Dip served with tortilla chips and toasted pita, or the Brie Wedge paired with candied walnuts and honey, elevate the early stages of your meal with elegance and depth.

More than just a place to eat, Later Alligator is described by patrons as a “hidden gem” and a “unique spot” where great service, flavorful food, and an inviting vibe come together flawlessly. Repeat visitors rave about the consistent quality and standout dishes like their distinctive curry sauce and the ever-popular OvertheEdge tacos. We all had a different crepe but sadly I didn’t get other pictures. I had the Blueberry Hill, and it was phenomenal. My friend really enjoyed the Lox crepe. We also enjoyed the focaccia and potato salad. The atmosphere is so adorable and unique. Even my 1 year old enjoyed this restaurant!

Stopped here between hockey games in Wheeling. Great atmosphere and the whole menu looked amazing. Went with the house specialty of savory crepes and was NOT disappointed. Got a mocha with my meal and it was also delicious.

I’ve been coming here for about five years, and it’s still one of my favorite places to go in Wheeling. It’s a unique spot with great service and delicious food. Their curry sauce is one of the best I’ve ever had. I usually get the Over-the-Edge tacos, but honestly, everything on the menu is good. The restaurant has a great vibe and really cool décor. They also have outdoor seating, and it’s a great place whether you’re dining in or taking food to go—I’ve done both, and it’s always a great experience. Even the bathroom is decorated in a fun and unique way, with license plates from all over the country. I’ve added some pictures so you can check it out!

Enjoyed! What a nice surprise after spending a week on the road and having most of our lunch stops at the mediocre (at best!) places. From a cute location, conveniently located close to the interstate, to the fun interior decor, to a tasty food, which reminded me of my Childhood in Eastern Europe + travel to France + American - all mixed in those sweet and savory crapes. Hope to pass by this place on another road trip...

The food here is yummy. Everything I’ve tried has been great. Crazy variety of unique sandwiches, wraps, salads and sweet and savory crepes. It is a small establishment with limited seating for a Very popular place. It is popular because it is very good. I just bought a home in the area and will be a regular here. Parties of 2 can get in pretty much right away. Groups of 3-4 may have a wait. Parties of 5+ need a reservation. When you check in be sure to let them know if you are willing to eat outside on the back patio it may shorten your wait. Our party of 3 waited 70 min last time because we wanted indoors. At 30 min they offered back patio but we wanted inside. They said if they had known they might have been able to seat some parties ahead of us outside. Previously we had no or short waits.
